At the beginning of the Covid 19 lockdowns, The Juniata Valley Shared Ministry immediately began an internet-based worship for all three congregations using Zoom. We opted for Zoom for its ease of use and ability to be interactive.

We worshipped together from our own homes with music provided by our organists and accompanists from their instruments at home. As restrictions eased, a limited group began Zooming from the Sanctuary at Highland (Pastor, Organist, and Tech person) while everyone else remained at home. We then began recording special music in advance for replay during the worship services.

Then, we came back into our buildings, but the Distance Ministry which Zoom allowed continued from HUPC. Eventually, WUPC added their service to Zoom. Highland United offers Adult Sunday School and Worship in hybrid format. The Shared Ministry offers our joint Bible Study in two fashions… In person switching between Newport and Mifflintown restaurants on Saturday mornings, and via Zoom on a weeknight to accommodate as many schedules as possible.
In 2026, we’ve extended the Distance Ministry. More on that after the July Lamp is published!
