September 1st, 2024 was a different worship experience for both Highland and Westminster. Today, Rev. McClure’s exploration of the Gospel of Matthew included an opportunity to engage. Congregants were asked to bring a snack item or candy along with them to worship. Then as part of the sermon, everyone was asked to make a card to support and be appreciative of our State Police (Newport and Mifflintown). Creativity flowed, and cards were made. The snacks and candy will be packed up in a basket along with the cards to be delivered to the two State Police Barracks covering the Juniata Valley Shared Ministry. To be supportive and show gratitude in times of tragedy, such as when troopers were gunned down last year in Mifflintown, is easy. To be that when it is not expected is Christ’s work in this world!
